This site was the former holding centre & courthouse for over 3000 Irish suspected 1916 rebels. Works consisted of the renovation of two existing listed barrack buildings for use as a museum with display spaces and the construction of a new link building, a conservatory and a services building, together with extensive landscaping.
Whilst the works brought about a transformation of the buildings, all authentic elements and the original fabric was retained where possible. The octagonal roof lantern which had been previously removed was reinstated having been reconstructed based on historical drawings and photographs.
Restoration of this former British Army Barracks, steeped in Irish History.
"From commencing on site, Purcell engaged immediately with the design team and established a positive and proactive working relationship with all members of the Design Team. They showed full commitment and professionalism at every stage of the project and far exceeded expectations. Their willingness to source the most experienced sub-contractors with experience in historic buildings was always a priority and this is
evident the high standard of work that was delivered."
