Construction of the new National Train Control Centre, as Iarnród Éireann’s centre for the management and regulation of train movements, enabling the integration of signalling and communications control of approximately 600 train movements per day across the entire IE network.

This 5 storey building with partial basement was constructed in the live operating environment of Heuston station, surrounded by live train movements. The works included approximately 1500nr precast concrete sections, 3800m2 of rainscreen cladding, 5000m2 of raised access flooring, 22km of cable tray containing 110km of data cabling and 14km of site ducting externally.

The centre also co-locates the Dublin city traffic control arrangements, operated by Dublin City Council. Locating key parts of the control system for transport, in one building, uniquely provides an opportunity to dramatically enhance the integration of transport for the overall benefit of the greater Dublin area.

A highly complex piece of critical national infrastructure.
