Construction of a new Operations Depot and Civic Amenity Site for Dublin City Council, on a 10 acre brownfield site in Ballymun. Designed to NZEB standards, it includes a 4-storey office administration building with staff welfare & canteen facilities, adjoining Multi-Storey Car Park for 300 vehicles and 200 bicycles, Central Stores Warehouse plus a range of Workshops, a glulam structure Salt Barn with capacity for 1200tns of road salt, Civic Amenity Office, external storage areas, waste compaction & vehicle wash areas and extensive siteworks, public road junctions and boundary works.
This Depot is the culmination of Dublin City Councils initiative to re-locate 16 existing depots, yards and maintenance facilities throughout the north inner city and almost 600 staff, into one amalgamated facility, thus freeing up the inner city sites for housing regeneration.
The purpose-built depot brings together operations from waste management, housing maintenance, electrical services, public lighting, traffic, surface water maintenance, drainage planning and road maintenance into one campus, for the first time.
As well as incorporating ground based (horizontal) landscape features, the new development also makes use of vertical features through the use of vertical Living Wall landscape. On the northern and southern elevations of the Multi-Story carpark a series of vertical planting bays have been provided which not only provide an attractive appearance but also make a real contribution to the environment. This Living Wall feature assists in cleaning the air through entrapment of nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter and also supports habitat for insects and birdlife.
A state of the art, new super-depot.
