A two storey Acute Medical Assessment Unit extension with a Hospital Street to allow for future connectivity to the main hospital.

The extension includes treatment rooms, patient bays and wards, public waiting areas, office accommodation, pantry facilities and associated ancillary accommodation.

The roof has a curved outline which relates to existing curved building forms on site. The external walls are clad in white rainscreen cladding. The project was undertaken within a live acute hospital environment.

Acute Medical Assessment Unit at MRH Portlaoise.

"The project was a demanding project in terms of a complex building designed to the latest exacting hygiene and energy standards, involved working in a live environment with limited site access and is a heavily serviced building. Purcell were proactive in working with the Design Team and the client in successfully delivering the project. They demonstrated a high level of attention to detail, good professional management and team organization, and a positive pro-active attitude to ensuring a high standard of construction was achieved."
