Grangegorman – DIT Campus

  Purcell Construction is delighted to be involved in the construction of the new DIT campus, at Grangegorman in Dublin’s north inner city. St. Mel’s Cathedral – Contract No. 6

We are pleased to announce that in a joint venture with our partners, Gem Construction, we [Gem Purcell Ltd] have been awarded Contract Nr.5A for the completion of the full restoration and conservation works to St. Mel’s Cathedral in Longford. This contract is an extension of the Contract Nr.5 that we have recently completed on this landmark building, which dates back to 1856. The overall value of the works awarded to us, is now in excess of €18m, making this one of the largest conservation projects of its kind in Europe. St. Mel’s was completely destroyed by a fire which started at 5am on Christmas morning, 2009. RIAI Best Cultural Building Winner 2013 – Luan Gallery

The Luan Art Gallery in Athlone, has been chosen by the RIAI as the Best Cultural Building in 2013. This award completes a ‘Three in a Row’ of award winning projects that we have constructed, following on from the Educational Building Winner in 2012 for Loreto College, Crumlin and  Best Commercial / Retail Building Winner in 2011 for Briarhill Drive Thru, Galway The judges’ citation reads “The strong composition and planar control, allied to an assured choice of materials, has created a calm presence on the quayside of this elegant civic extension.”         The works were carried out on an extremely difficult yet spectacular site, by the Town’s historic bridge over the River Shannon and the Catholic Church of St. Peter & St. Paul. 1st Passivhaus Standard School in Ireland

Purcell Construction is delighted to have delivered Ireland’s first ever Passivhaus standard school in Scoil Mhuire,  Moynalty, Co. Meath. which was substantially complete on 20th March 2012. With an airtightness rating of 0.54 (m³/hr)/M³@50pa, it has also achieved the lowest ever air-tightness rating for a non-domestic building in Ireland.         Achievement of the Passivhaus standard required extremely high standards of design, specification and construction in the areas of thermal insulation, air-tightness measures, triple-glazing, photo-voltaic solar panels, wood chip boiler and a heat recovery ventilation system. The buildings integrated BMS system provides system controls and acts as an educational facility, which the staff and pupils can monitor.
